Class Descriptions
ARMS WIDE OPEN
This is a special needs dance and movement class for special needs children/adults. In this class the instructors will guide the students on a creative journey through dance movement and percussion.
BALLET
Ballet is the basis for all dance. Combining proper alignment and body placement, seamless transitions through standard arm, leg and feet positions. It trains dancers to be clean, versatile performers.
BELLY DANCE
No matter your size, age or level of fitness, Belly Dance Class is for you! Let us introduce you to the wonderful world of Belly Dance and put a little shimmy into your life.
BODY PERCUSSION
Must have instructor approval.
BOYS TAP & STOMP I/II
Must have instructor approval.
COMBINATION TAP & JAZZ
Offered to children 4-5 and 5-8 years old. Classes begin 1/2 hour of tap and finish with 1/2 hour of jazz. Students will start with basic dance steps and will learn new dance steps that are introduced throughout the year which become more challenging as the year progresses.
DRUMS

During a private 30 minute weekly lesson, students will learn beginning to advanced drum beats, drum fills, and how to read music. Students will learn a broad range of styles from Rock, Jazz, Latin, to Corp style snare drumming.
GUITAR
During a private 30 minute weekly lesson, students will learn theory, performance techniques and how to read music.
HIP HOP
Hip Hop is a blend of today's high energy "street style" movement. This style of dance has been sought after by teens, pre-teens and the "young at heart."
JAZZ
Jazz is an expressive, creative, dynamic and fun type of dance. The emphasis is shared between technical and style training. We encourage students to take both ballet and jazz classes.
JR. CREW
Must have instructor approval.
LEAPS & TURNS
Leaps and turns is a class where you work on your specific technique with an instructor. The class includes leg spins, illusions, pk's, pirouettes, fuertes, back leap, center leap, switch leap and switch center leap.
LYRICAL
Lyrical is a sub-category of jazz and/or contemporary dance. Lyrical dance style has its primary basis in ballet, combining the many technical elements of classical ballet with the freedom and airier aspects of jazz, contemporary and modern dance.
PERCUSSION MOVEMENT
In these classes you will learn to drum on everyday household objects, such as pots and pans, buckets, barrels and trash cans. You will learn how to use your own body as an instrument. You must take these classes to be eligible for a Jr. Crew team.
PIANO
During a private 30 minute weekly class, students will learn classical fundamentals, note reading, theory, ear training and more!
RYTHMIC TAP
Must have instructor approval.
SWING/JITTERBUG
Let Rubio's Dance introduce you to East Coast Swing. No partner or dance experience required. Class includes basic moves such as the Lindy Hop and Baby Doll and progresses to more complex moves such as The Pancake, Around the World, and Moon Flip.
TAP
Using a combination of structured curriculum and rhythms, Rubio's Dance Studio offers exciting Tap classes. These classes consist of warm-ups followed by stylized movements in which develops a strong sense of coordination and agility.
TEENY TOTS (TAP & BALLET)
This class is designed for children 2-3 years of age. Teeny Tots and Tiny Tots is a great way to introduce the young student to the exciting world of dance. Students enjoy learning tap and ballet from talented instructors.
TINY TOTS (TAP & BALLET)
This class is designed for 2-4 year olds. Students will learn basic ballet and tap technique in a nuturing environment. This class gives young children the opportunity to interact with other children their age while giving your young dancer the opportunity to take instruction from a teacher figure.
TINY TOTS (HIP HOP)
This class was created to capture the interest of all those little girls and boys who love to dance. A fun class set to their favorite Disney tunes.
ZUMBA
The Latin-inspired, easy-to-follow, calorie-burning, dance fitness-party with an instructor. Feel the music and let loose!

Please Note: classes with fewer than 3 students may be reduced in time with no reduction in the monthly fee. For example, a one-hour class with 2-3 dancers may be reduced to 45 minutes and the one-hour fee will be charged.

Studio Policies
All students are encouraged to wear appropriate dance attire to class.

DRESS CODE:
BALLET
Girls should wear black leotards, light pink tights and pink ballet shoes. Hair must be secured neatly off the back of the neck in a bun. Boys are to wear white tee shirts, gray or black footless tights, white socks and white or black ballet shoes.
BALLET/TAP COMBINATION
Students should wear simple black or pink leotards, light pink tights, pink ballet shoes and black taps. Hair must be
secured neatly off the back of the neck.
BELLY DANCE
Comfortable clothes. Bare feet.
BOYS
All classes – shorts and a t-shirt, jazz pants, sweats, etc., Tap, ballet, jazz and gym shoes are to be black.
HIP HOP
Students may wear comfortable fitted clothing and tennis shoes.
JAZZ/LYRICAL
Students should wear appropriate fitted dance attire. Leotard, tights, jazz pants, etc., Jazz shoes. No bare legs, sweats, boxer shorts, t-shirts or baggy clothing.
JR. CREW
Students may wear comfortable clothes. Must bring own drum sticks! Boots required!
PERCUSSION MOVEMENT
Students may wear comfortable clothes. Optional boots. Must bring own drum sticks.
TAP
Leotard, etc., Tap shoes.
SWING
Students may wear leggings (no short shorts). No bare feet, no sandals.
ZUMBA
Comfortable clothes and tennis shoes.

STUDIO RULES:
In order for each student to have a positive and safe experience, we would like to acquaint you with the following guidelines. These are the rules we find necessary for each class.
- Please arrive on time. Late arrivals disrupt the entire class. If 15 minutes late you will have to sit and watch the class.
- Please respect our learning environment. Students who are waiting for class, siblings and parents please keep lobby area distraction free for on going classes. Any person who is causing a distraction maybe asked to leave the premises.
- Please label all your dance wear, shoes, and personal items, so that we can return it to you if left at the studio. We are not responsible for lost, stolen, damaged, articles of clothing, jewelry, or other personal property.
- You must pick up your dancer immediately after their class is over. We cannot be responsible for them after class. Please call if you have an emergency.
- No Gum Chewing in Class or on Premises. During class chewing gum is a safety hazard. Please do not even let siblings chew gum in the waiting area. It is a big mess when it gets in the carpet and then onto dance shoes.
- No food or drinks (except plastic water containers with lids) allowed in the dance studio.
- Please read the Bulletin Board in the lobby carefully. There is updated information on it each month.
- If you need to pick up your child early or wish to speak with an instructor, please check in at the office.
- We ask that illness be the only reason for missed class. It is necessary for every dancer to have good attendance in order to progress and develop as a dancer. If your child if going to be absent, please notify the Studio.
- No jewelry is to be worn in class except stud earrings.
- Students should be prepared to follow the studio dress code. A student who continually refuses to follow the dress code may be asked to sit out of class.
- Unruly behavior will not be tolerated, nor will any disrespectful behavior toward any Instructor. You will be asked to leave the Studio immediately. Rude behavior towards each other will also be subject to dismissal.
- We reserve the right to cancel any class at any time due to insufficient enrollment for that particular time. If this occurs, a new time will be arranged for you.
- No students are allowed in the office, unless asked.
- Instructor will leave after 15 minutes if no students have arrived for class.
PAYMENT RULES:
- All tuition is due and payable at the first class of the month. If your monthly tuition has not been paid in full by the 15th of the month, a $15.00 late fee will be added to your account. Statements are only sent to delinquent accounts. A $15.00 late fee will be added to each month’s tuition for a balance that is left unpaid. If your child is ill or you are going to be out of town, be sure to mail in your tuition to avoid the late fee. Checks can be placed in the tuition box on the office door.
- ***There is a $25.00 charge for non-sufficient funds.
- Tuition is based on approximately 4 lessons per month. There is no extra charge for months with 5 weeks nor is there a reduction or discount for any classes missed or months with holidays.
- There will be no refunds for missed classes. Make-up classes will be at the discretion of the instructor, there are no tuition reductions for students that go out of town or become ill. If you wish to hold your place in class, tuition should be paid.
- No costumes will be given to students with over due balances. All accounts must be paid in full with your tuition for students to participate in the recital.
- Make checks payable to Rubio’s Performing Arts. PLEASE PUT THE STUDENTS NAME ON THE CHECK to insure proper credit to your account.
- There is no change in payment or discounts given for classes missed.
- You are responsible to check the bulletin board in April for your costume balance, to be paid with your April, tuition.
- All Students will be charged a non-refundable costume deposit and be held responsible for any costume balance, unless we are informed during registration that the student will not participate in the recital.

- Recital Tickets will be sold at a first come, first served basis. Please note we will not be providing free tickets.
- Student Withdrawals: You are responsible for payment of monthly tuition until you notify RUBIO'S PERFORMING ARTS of your intent to withdraw from a class. Charges will continue until we receive notification of drop.
- There is a yearly enrollment/registration fee of $25.00 per returning student or new student and is billed each September or upon enrollment.
- Please note classes with fewer than 3 students may be reduced in time with no reduction in the monthly fee. For example, a one hour class with two dancers may be reduced to 45 minutes and the one hour fee will be charged.
